Mettle is a social fitness game: your real-world steps power heroes who battle monsters alongside your friends. These terms are the agreement between you and Mettle for using the app. By signing in, you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
How your data is handled is covered separately, in the Privacy Policy.
This is the most important thing on this page. Mettle is entertainment. It is not a medical device, not a fitness programme, and not health advice. It does not diagnose, treat or monitor anything. The step counts it shows come from Apple Health or Health Connect and are only as accurate as your phone is; do not rely on them for any purpose where accuracy matters.
The game rewards walking, which means it is designed to encourage you to walk more. Walk sensibly. Pay attention to traffic and to your surroundings, and stop if you are hurt or unwell. Whether any amount of walking is safe for you is a question for you and your doctor, not for a game. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or are recovering from injury, talk to a healthcare professional before changing how much you walk.
You sign in with Apple or Google. You need one to play, because the account is what makes your progress survive a reinstall. Keep control of it: anything done through your account is treated as done by you.
One person, one account. Do not share your account, sell it, or sign in as somebody else. You must be 13 or older to play.
You can delete your account at any time, from inside the app or at walkmettle.com/delete-account. Deleting it removes your progress, and that cannot be undone.
Mettle is competitive. Squads fight together, players duel each other, and there is a global leaderboard. That only works if the steps are real.
So: do not fake your steps. Do not use a device, an app or a machine to generate step counts you did not walk, do not tamper with the data the health APIs report, and do not automate play. Do not try to reach the game's servers by any route other than the app, interfere with other players, or attempt to break, probe or overload the service.
Mettle checks for step counts that are not physically plausible, and readings that fail those checks are discounted. If an account is used to cheat, we may remove its progress from the leaderboards, reset it, or close it.
Player names, squad names and squad descriptions are visible to other people. Keep them civil: nothing hateful, harassing, obscene, or impersonating somebody else. We can rename or remove anything that is not, and close accounts that keep doing it.
Other players are other people. Mettle does not vet them, and what they do is not something the game can promise anything about.
Coins, heroes, pets, crests, renown and every other in-game item are part of the game, not property. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be sold or transferred outside the app. A licence to use them lasts as long as your account does.
The game is balanced and rebalanced over time. Prices, rewards, difficulty and the items themselves can change, and items can be withdrawn. If you buy anything through the App Store or Google Play, that purchase is handled by Apple or Google under their terms, and any refund is theirs to give, not ours.
Mettle is provided as it is. It is a small game, run by one person, and it carries no promise that it will always be available, always be correct, or always keep working the way it does today. Features change. Things break. Servers go down. The game may be changed, suspended or discontinued.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Mettle is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising out of using it — including lost progress, lost items, or an injury from walking. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you have consumer rights under the law where you live, these terms do not take them away.
The app, its art, its writing and its code belong to Mettle. Playing the game does not transfer any of that to you.
These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of Mettle goes to the state or federal courts located in the District of Columbia, and you and we each agree to those courts having jurisdiction.
If you live somewhere whose consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring a claim locally, or gives you rights that cannot be waived by agreement, this section does not take that away.
You can stop using Mettle whenever you like, and delete your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that is being used to cheat or to harm other players.
If these terms change materially, the updated terms will be posted here with a new date. Continuing to play after that means you accept them.
